Here's a photo of Ohtawara-shi, Tochigi-ken, Japan in the evening. Yes, that spectacular orange ski is for real. The photo was taken in and around June 20, 1991 after Mount Pinatubo erupted in the Philippine's a week earlier.
For about a two week period, the skies over Japan were a beautiful orange in the evening. This photo HERE shows what the skies looked like in Ohtawara at night.
Yes, the sky was hazy in this shot... but wow... it was beautiful despite knowing how deadly it was back in the Philippines.
Unlike the other photo, linked above, this shot was taken from my western balcony. I also had a northern balcony. I could have climbed illegally to the roof of my seven-story apartment building, but it was still around 8PM and bright. I didn't want to freak out the people living on the top floors as I would have had to literally climb their apartment to get to the roof.
My building was the tallest in the city at that time - and may still be, for all I know. I really did live at 307 Zuiko Haitsu - on a wing... an apartment that was called the best and most expensive place to live outside of a few ancestral homes that were 150 years of age or older. It was known as Zuiko Mansion.
Yes, I brag about my home... but look at the view I was afforded. Mountains to the west and to the north. It was sights like this that made me want to stay.
Cheers
