Akihabara
Is more electric than some,
But not Godzilla.
FYI: Akihabara is a district in Tokyo known as Electric City - because if you are looking to purchase electronics like a stereo, keyboards, TV, whatever - this is the garish neon place to be.
Also, Godzilla does not have electric powers and is actually weakened by very strong electrical discharges, but he does have an electric personality, and apparently an ego, as this was written in the first monster, I mean first person. Hmmm.... apparently the previous three Godzilla haiku he wrote were also written in the first monster - dammit! - first-person.
God help me people! I don't even have to count syllables anymore! It just comes spewing out of my brain in perfect haiku syllables of five-seven and five! If it gets any easier I'll start doing tanka - that's the Japanese poetry style of five-seven-five-seven-seven syllables per line. You know I can do it, too.
Since Godzilla was probably my very first exposure to Japan, it seems appropriate to make the new year ring in with a haiku.
And if you would like to learn more about Godzilla and other monsters from Japan, have a read HERE.
I promise to create a blog very soon about Godzilla, the myth and the monster. I can't promise there won't be a haiku involved, though!
Happy New Year, Japan!
Cheers
Andrew Joseph
