Japanese Women Beat US in Soccer At Algarve Cup Semi

They did it again! Japan's women's soccer team has once again beaten the US team... this time by a score of 1-0 in the semi-final of the Algarve Cup held in Faro, Portugal, setting up a final against the German squad.

This time, rather than penalty shots to decide the match, Japan's Takase Megumi (surname first) scored from a header from six-yards out from a corner kick by Miyama Aya (surname first) in the 84th minute. It was Japan's only corner kick of the match, and its only shot of the 2nd half.

With the shut-out, Japan became the first team to hold the U.S. without a goal in the past three years over 58 games.

Meanwhile, Germany throttled Sweden 4-0 to finish to meet Japan in the finals on March 7, 2012. The Swedes will play the U.S.A that day to determine 3rd place.
