Penguin Breaks Out Of Jail

Penguins can leap with the aid of an umbrella.
I love stories like this - especially if no one gets hurt during the breakout.

Apparently the Penguin has escaped and is once again free to terrorize the good citizens of Gotham! While Japan - It's A Wonderful Rife is not sure at this time if it is the Burgess Meredith Penguin (unlikely, what with him being dead) or the Danny DeVito Penguin. We don't believe it to be any one of the five cartoon voice actors.

At this time, we can only hope Batman and Robin - what's that? It's not The Penguin, but rather a penguin that has escaped? From where?

Apparently on Sunday March 4, 2012, a Humboldt penguin born and bred at Japan's Kasai Rinkai Aquarium in Tokyo has escaped and may be waddling the streets checking out sushi shops or trying to get laid.

Okay... for realsies... at about 11AM, an employee at a nearby bird park called the Kasai Rinkai Aquarium to tell them that something that looked like a penguin was swimming Kyu-Edo River.

This blog can only hope that an employee at a bird park knows what a penguin actually looks like and was thus able to make a positive identification, but NTV (a Japanese news station), who reported on this case did not make it appear as though it wanted to state it was a penguin - in case they were wrong it was just an auk in a rented tuxedo.

Anyhow, after the aquarium counted its penguins, one of the 135 was indeed missing.

This just keeps betting better: According to aquarium officials, the pengu's are kept within an area that has a one-meter-high fence surrounding it made of concrete and iron, and that somehow - because no human error was admitted - the penguin must have flown the coop by jumping OVER the fence, seeing as how penguins can not fly.

While the penguin is still on the loose, and has been spotted many times swimming in the river, he has eluded capture still as of Monday morning.

I love this part: If you have any information, call 03-3869-5153.

Me? I'd call Batman - but not the folks at the bird park.

Cheers,
Andrew Joseph
PS: If you look at the photo of the Humboldt penguin in the upper left (not the Oswald Cobblepot Penguin on the right), please note that this is NOT the missing bird, merely one of his buddies still in the pen! Although... it does appear as though THIS bird has also managed to escape in the past, as he is still wearing the armband given out to those entering certain dance clubs in Shinjuku, Tokyo. It might be a clue, Batman!
