How To Write " Burn in Hell " In Japanese

Just so you know that I read all requests - such as "How do you say: 'dinosaur' in Japanese", or "How can I be a great writer like you?" or even "Why don't you go to Hell, you bastard!"

Except for the first one, the others are made up... but the program I use to create the look of these blogs  has software that tells me the top 10 things people are looking for when they stumble across my blog.

And that's what people do - they stumble across my blog. I do have a loyal cadre of regular readers, though not a lot of true blog Followers, as dictated by the "followers" icon down to the right of this blog page. But generally speaking, most of the daily readers I get are looking for something in particular via their Internet search engine when they fall upon Japan - It's A Wonderful Rife, and more often than not, they read a few articles - which is very cool.

Anyhow... someone wanted to know how to write out in Japanese: "burn in hell!" There was no exclamation mark in the request, but I assume one would be required for such a bold and aggressive statement.

I will present that information here, though not offer the pronunciation of it. Just one word of advice from someone who has uttered the phrase far too many times in his life: Make sure this is what you want to put in writing. Once you do, it's very difficult to take back.

地獄で燃える!
Burn in Hell!

Okay? Okay.

No request is too small or too odd. Though if it is going to be a small request, it helps if it is odd enough to capture my attention. I also accept money in various denominations and currencies.

Cheers

The Zen Of Andrew

People often ask me why it is that I write about the past... why don't I write about myself in the present time?

A few reasons... 1) I no longer live in Japan, though I often wish I did; 2) Fewer lawsuits when you write about the past - especially when you write everything as though it was written 20 years previous—which I do... as I expand upon the diary I kept from my days in Japan... expanding on it with a viewpoint from 20 years later, to be sure... but I try to keep the spirit alive.

It's funny how one can look at the words from so long ago and then be transported back to those exact moments when it occurred. To be honest, if it wasn't for this diary, I would have little recollection of what I did or how I felt while I was there in Ohtawara, Japan. Matthew, my great friend then and now concurs.

It's strange though... for both he and I, Japan represented a turning point in our life—and yet, with the passage of time, we blurrrrrrrr.

So... why do I write about the past? To relive it, I suppose. But it's not like I am enjoying myself every time I write about it. Many days, I look back with a sad fondness for people and places I may never see again... knowing some are long since passed from this mortal coil, others long lost in travel and life, and still others who are simply lost.

It is painful to write about MY past for another reason. It is MY past... and while I do finally see the infinite kindness of others who went out of their way to look after me—people for whom I probably never properly thanked—I also see how troubled I was... and how it seems to mirror the life I live today.

Here's a line I found somewhere—a long time ago—that seems to sum things up for me:

"If you want to understand your past, look at your current situation. If you want to see your future, look at your current actions."

I have no idea who wrote that. I have it written in my own hand-writing on a well-worn pad of paper from Japan... but it sounds too profound to have come from my pen.

I'm sure there are more than a few of you out there who think that sentence is profound. I know I did when I kept that tidbit of knowledge... but do you know what... it's one damn scary adage.

If you want to see your past, look at your current situation... Geez... women problems then and now. Both are what stop me from enjoying life to the fullest, so instead I enjoy life to the foolest.

Okay...

If you want to see your future, look at your current actions. But dammit! My current actions suck. Does that mean my future will too? That's the scary aspect.

But do you know what's even worse? While the past me had a great network of friends and family AROUND him, current me has friends (only) in cyber space.

It's both good and bad... but dammit all to Tartarus, the next step for the future is me having friends only in my head.

"Hey Andrew, let's go for a walk!"
"Nahhhh. I'm just going to sit around the skull casing."

My imaginary friend is lazy. Or am I the friend in this situation?

Whatever... I'm a writer and every writer needs an outlet... physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, sexual—whatever.

I don't even know why I am writing this... is it for me only? Publication? Why share it? It's personal... oh yeah... the blog... damn... that's right... public humility. I've been ever so naughty. I deserve a spanking. Whack! Whack!

I wish that was the case, but, whatever...

Since you may or may not be reading this, I guess you know my answer. Well, actually, if you aren't reading this, you have no idea what I am talking about.

Cheers from the future,
Andrew Joseph
As for why I chose to use a Joss Whedon DVD of Serenity? Many Reasons, I suppose. But... when one writes the word ZEN, it's a circle.  A DVD, a key player in the electronic media age of bloggers, seemed sort of zen, and the fact that it used the word serenity... that was zen. I'm sure there are other reasons, too...

A Look At March 2012 In This Blog

It's been a tough month. Work has been busy. Home life the same. Dog nearly died. I sold my dead SAAB on my driveway for parts. Been broke and down for most of the month.
The only thing I have going for me is this blog. It's not my life (maybe), but it gives me life.
So... how did we do for the month of March 2012?
Best month ever!
All I can say is: Thank-you very much!
So... why so good?
No... my wife and family did not start reading my writing - that would be too far fetched for any fictional story I might create (and I do when I'm inspired).
Where to start?
Aside from the first three days of March where everything was status quo - 500+ hits a day... the rest of the month suddenly saw this blog getting 700+ hits a day... with eight at +800... and then things went ballistic.
Maybe it had something to do with the one-year anniversary of the Japan disasters? But, I didn't really write too much about that.
I figured it was best left to those who are there to write about it.
I wrote about the news. And had fun doing so - where possible.
Maybe it has something to so with Twitter? But I only got three more followers...
Anyhow... on March 22, the blog hit 903. I thought it was because I wrote about how The Hunger Games had similarities to an older Japanese movie called Battle Royale... and while I was right about the blog's popularity, it was actually for an older blog where I just did a movie review on Battle Royale. Cool!
Then the next day we went up to 1,110  - again, a Battle Royale hang-over, I supposed.
Then it went down to 'normal' 800+ on the 24th.
It's the weekend, I supposed. People have better things to do than to read what I have wrought.
But Sunday the 25th showed me I was wrong (again), as we pulled in 1,127 hits.
Could I finally be happy with this blog? People like it! They really like it!
March 26th: 1,249.
March 27th: 1,266.
March 28th: 1,171
March 29th: 1,133
March 30th: 1,146
March 31st: down to 841 (Saturday!)

Basically, I'm getting about 600 to 700 more hits per day (excluding Saturdays!). That's bloody awesome considering I entered the month at a total of 500 hits a day.

All of this means that this blog had a grand total of 26,802 hits - shattering the old record of 20,292 (which was an aberration thanks to my Miss Universe blog going for 11,000 hits back in last September).
Anyhow... this past February this blog had an awesome 17,464 hits. But in March, we shattered it by 9,338, which was more than I had for the entire month of November 2011!
Am I happy with this blog? Despite what I have said in the past - even if I get one hit - at least it means I have entertained or informed at least one person - and that makes me happy.
As such - nearly 27,000 hits?! I'm ecstatic.
But can it continue in April? Crappy blogs like this one won't help - but like always, keep checking in for twice daily blogs on who knows whatever strikes my fancy at that moment!

Thanks for hitting on me. It makes me wanted.
